Mika Hansson has 23 years’ experience in smart cards and, more specifically, ePassports and eID cards. He has done cryptographic security design and has been responsible for the Common Criteria for Security Evaluation of Passport Operating Systems. He has also developed passport and ID card processes, both as an expert and as a project and program manager.
Mika worked in the private sector for 13 years (Setec, Gemplus, Gemalto) before collaborating with the Finnish Police (Ministry of the Interior, National Bureau of Investigation and National Police Board) for over 10 years. He is currently Senior Adviser at the National Police Board in Finland, where he manages the Finnish passport certification systems and passport chips.
Mika also serves as national PKI coordinator and is a member of ICAO’s New Technology Working Group (NTWG) and of the European Commission’s Article 6 Committee.
The new Finnish passports, eID cards, and their issuance process
This presentation will explain the changes needed to implement a more customer-friendly and efficient passport and eID card process in Finland, with no compromise to security, including renewing travel documents without visiting authorities in person.
