After studying Business Administration at Liège University and gaining experience as an organisation analyst at Crédit Agricole, Yves joined the National Bank of Belgium in 1984.
He has since held various responsibilities in connection with banknote manufacture and issuance, and has gained broad experience in the field of counterfeit prevention and risk analysis as a member of the Eurosystem’s Banknote Committee from 2004 to 2014, as a member of the European task forces dealing with counterfeiting problems from 1995 onwards, and as the Belgian representative to the Central Bank Counterfeit Deterrence Group.
Yves was also involved in designing and establishing the National Analysis Centre (NAC) for counterfeit banknotes, and in introducing the original model for cooperation with the Police whereby the Central Counterfeit Deterrence Office and NAC share the same premises and thus constantly work together. He is currently senior adviser at the National Bank of Belgium, in charge of banknote strategy and European Affairs.
